Connect gas outlet from GreenHouse Blowdown Evaporator to the inlet at the top
of the condenser. Ensure condenser is properly secured and clamped. Screw the
solvent collection flask to the bottom of the condenser.
Fill reservoir of condenser with dry ice and cautiously add acetone in small
portions until most of the dry ice is covered.

If the reaction tubes are less than half full, slowly and carefully open the
Flowmeter valve until the flow rate is 10 to 15 litres per minute.
If the flow rate is correct, it should just ‘dimple’ the solvent surface.

Important Note
Ensure that the cooling reservoir is kept topped up with dry ice
during extended evaporations!

Switch on the heating control on the stirring hotplate and set the Fuzzy Logic
Temperature controller to an appropriate value. Normally 40˚C is enough
and this should not normally cause decomposition of product. However
this temperature may be increased for high boiling solvents such as DMF
or reduced for thermally less stable compounds.
See page 13 for important information on pressure control.
Important Note
If the tubes are more than half full use a slower flow rate
- increasing the flow rate as the solvent evaporates.

Important Note
Excessive flow rates may cause solvent to be ejected from the tubes
with loss of material and possible cross-contamination. Do not
immerse the blowdown pins below the surface of the solvent.

Warning
Dry ice causes burns!
Ensure that suitable protective clothing
(eye protection, insulated gloves and apron) is used during filling
or emptying.
!
Warning
The Blowdown Head Safety Pressure Relief Valve and Gas Inlet Safety Pressure Relief Valve are designed to
vent at nominally 4 to 6psi. Therefore under normal and correct operation procedures neither valve should be
venting.
!
Important Note
Do not use air for evaporation in the GreenHouse Blowdown due to
the possibility of oxidation of the product during evaporation.
