Non- Vo l memory can be modified under program control and retains the information even
when power is removed. N o n -Vol is used for many things in the breadboard. S o m e o f
the things that can be stored in Non-Vol are:
Required boards configuration information
User specified vectors
Initial I/O port values
Queue sizes
User data
The N o n - Vo l memory i s divided into t w o areas. T h e first area is a fixed b l o c k o f
memory dedicated to system information. T h e second area is the user area. The user area
can be divided into a structured area that uses "records", and an unstructured area where
the user has complete flexibility.
Non- Vo l records are stored as a linked list. E a c h r e c o r d has common pieces o f
information as well as the actual information being stored.
The common information is:
Block Links
Record Type Identifier
Block Checksum
Description
Data Area
Block Links are links that allow for the maintenance o f the Non-Vol's structure.
Record Type Identifiers contain flags that describe some of the capabilities for this block.
One flag is used to determine whether the data from this block is allowed to be sent out
