Check local plumbing codes and regulations before
attempting to install the valve on your own. Some
jurisdictions prohibit or restrict do-it-yourself installations
in residential plumbing. If in doubt, hire a professional
plumbing contractor to install the valve.
Tools required:
· MIP (MNPT) fittings (x2) (compression¹ fittings or solder²
fittings)
· Adjustable wrenches (x2)
· Tube/Pipe Cutter
· Ruler
· Marker
· Teflon Tape
· Protective eyewear
1 Compression fittings are rated for the outside diameter of the tube/pipe. To
connect a 1" valve to a ¾" copper pipe, use a 1"MIP x 7/8 compression fitting. For
½"pipe, use 1"MIP x 5/8 compression fitting
2 Installation by professional plumbing contractor highly recommended when
using solder fittings.
Compression fittings for copper tube/pipe
1. Shut off the water supply at the main shut-off valve
2. Open the Water Guardian™ valve using the Water Guardian™
controller
3. Apply Teflon tape to the male pipe threads on the fittings to
provide a water-tight seal
4. Tighten the fittings into the valve using 2 wrenches. The
Teflon tape from the previous step will ensure a watertight seal.
5. Remove the nuts and ferrules from the fittings
6. Measure the length of the valve with the fittings installed
(without nuts & ferrules)
7. Read the instructions that came with the compression fittings
to determine the length of pipe to cut out and fitting
installation procedure. If the fittings did not come with
instructions:
a. Subtract the inside diameter of the tube from the length
of the valve assembly from step 4. (The cut-out must be
shorter than the valve assembly in order for the tube to
extend inside the compression fittings)
b. Measure and mark the tube.
c. Double-check the measurement then cut the tube with
the tube cutter.
d. Clean the tube ends of burrs and any dirt and debris.
e. Slide nut and ferrule over each tube end.
f. Insert the tube ends into fittings and tighten each nut
with 2 wrenches.
8. Slowly turn on the main water supply and check for leaks.
9. Tighten any leaking fittings until the leaks stop.
10. Connect the valve motor to the controller (see controller
installation instructions)
Solder fittings for copper tube/pipe
Installation of the valve using solder fittings should only be
attempted by a qualified plumbing contractor.
