WARNINGS
INITIAL HANDLING AND CONTROLS
To avoid electrical shock, connect the motor to the power supply ground terminal using
a wire size that complies with local regulations. To reduce the risk of electric shock, dis-
connect power before working on or around the water system.
1. Inspect the engine and drivers for transport damage. Report any visible damage to the
transport company and your supplier immediately.
2. Do not lift the motor using lead wires. Do not pull on the lead wires. The lead wires
must be protected at all times, as damaged wires may allow water to enter the wires
causing a ground fault.
3. Motors are usually supplied with water installed at the factory. This water has been
mixed with antifreeze, which allows the motor to be stored at low temperature. If the
motors are to be transported or stored at low temperatures, the water/antifreeze mixture
should be drained from the motor. (We recommend that the motor is clearly labelled to
alert future users that the motor has been drained).
4. On new installations and if the motor has not been used for an extended period, it
should be measured at 1000V prior to operation. The Megger / Insulation resistance
reading should be at least 1000 Mohms before operation and at least 50Mohm when
hot after running.
5. Verify that the motor is filled with water / antifreeze mixture or clean water prior to
installation. FAILURE TO ENSURE THAT THE ENGINE IS FILLED WITH WATER PRIOR TO
OPERATION WILL VOID ANY WARRANTY CLAIMS. Make sure all filler plugs, drain plugs,
cable connections and mounting bolts are tight.
6. The coupling must be a tight sliding fit on the shaft. Do not tap or push the coupling
onto the shaft, this could damage the thrust bearing.
7. Check that the rotor is free to rotate by turning it by hand. (Motors with mechanical
seals may feel stiff when turned by hand).
8. Make sure that the diaphragm opening at the bottom of the motor is open and not
blocked with mud or dirt.
9. If the motor is to be used in a horizontal position, your supplier must be informed prior
to installation.
Special requirements: This motor is equipped with Pt100 temperature sensors. It is
strongly recommended that the Pt100s are connected to a temperature display device
and that temperature, current and voltage are recorded when the motor is in service.
It is recommended that the temperature display unit also has a function that allows tem-
perature protection to be monitored and set for all 4 channels to shut down the motor
if temperatures rise more than 3 degrees. If there is a warranty inspection The motor
should be returned to the supplier, with leads and spliced joints, the cable should be cut
over the spliced joints.
