5.9.4 Rotary brush
Checking the sweeping pattern
To prevent excessive bristle wear under
normal working conditions, check the
sweeping pattern regularly:
1. Park the vehicle on a level, smooth
floor which is slightly dusty.
2. Sit on the driver's seat, insert the key
in the key switch and turn to
position 1.
3. Press the button to switch pre-
sweep/vacuum unit on/off (Fig. 20/4)
to start the side brushes and rotary
brush rotating and to lower them.
4. Allow the pre-sweep/vacuum unit to
operate for a short time while at a
standstill.
5. Press the button to switch pre-
sweep/vacuum unit on/off (Fig. 20/4)
stop the side brushes and rotary
brush and raise them.
6. Drive the vehicle forward a short way
so that you can see the sweeping
pattern (sweeping strokes).
7. Assess the sweeping pattern:
Sweeping pattern is correct:
If the rotary brush is setup correctly, the
swept area on the floor forms a rectan-
gle whose side edges are parallel. The
short sides of the rectangle should
measure 1.2-2.0 in.
If the sweeping pattern is
broader than 2.0 in, the brush
pressure is too high. If the
sweeping pattern is narrower
than 1.2 in, the brush pressure
is too low.
The shape of the sweeping
pattern must be a rectangle
and not trapeze or wedge
shaped!
If the sweeping pattern is not correct, it
must be adjusted; refer to Section “Set-
ting the sweeping pattern”.
Setting the sweeping pattern
1. Sit on the driver's seat, insert the key
in the key switch and turn to
position 1.
2. Press the button to switch pre-
sweep/vacuum unit on/off (Fig. 20/4)
to lower the side brush and the rotary
brush.
3. Turn the key switch to position 0 and
remove the key. The rotary brush
and side brush remain lowered.
4. Pivot the left and right-hand side
flaps up.
All the adjustments must be
made on both sides of the ve-
hicle!
5. Loosen the counternuts (Fig. 38/3)
on both sides of the vehicle.
6. Turn the adjusting device (Fig. 38/4)
on both sides of the vehicle as de-
scribed below:
- To make the sweeping pattern
broader, turn counterclockwise.
- To make the sweeping pattern nar-
rower, turn clockwise.
