REGULATION RECOMMENDATION: TWELVE RECOMMENDATIONS
CONCERNING SNOW CHAINS & REMOVABLE NONSKID EQUIPMENTS
1. The user of the present snow chains has to respect scrupulously all purposeful recommendations below,
hiring his only own responsibility regarding damage caused on the product, the vehicle or the persons. 2.
The use of snow chains is only reserved on snowy or iced road still opened to traffic. While driving with
snow chains on, do not forget that vehicle deportment is affected. Therefore, it is very important not to
brake or accelerate abruptly. Never drive on dry roads (non icy or in snow roads): this might generate a
premature tear of the product and modify strongly the vehicle deportment.
3. The recommendations of the constructor must be closely follow without changing at all the pres-
sure of inflation of tyres, by referring for it to the log book of the vehicle. 4. The instructions of simplified
assemblage guide must be also follow to make sure of good stopping and good stability of the vehicle.
5. The user will watch to respect the adequacy of the product with the precise dimension of his vehicle’s
tyres. 6. The user will take up snow chains exclusively by pairs, at least on driving wheels. 7. The user will
set out to conform to the driving code of the country of use, without overstepping the maximum speed
of the product, to know 50 km / hour. 8. The user will stop the vehicle immediately in case of abnormal
noise so that it is possible to prove positioning and state of chains with snow. Parts of snow chains that
are in direct contact with the road are subjected to wear and tear. In case of broken snow chains, remove
them immediately to prevent damage to the vehicle. Never use snow chains with unusual failure of wear
and tear (more than 10 gaps of a two euro coin size over the whole tracking in contact with the road). 9.
The user will not miss to prove moreover the correct installation of chains with snow having gone through
a distance about a kilometre. 10. Snow chains must never be used when the real state of the road does
not justify it any more, as specified in the second point. 11. Finally it is hard recommended to wash and
to dry snow chains at the end of every use before delaying them in their bag of transport. 12. The present
prescripts result in addition to the vigilant respect which must encircle all the dispositions of the Order taken
by French Ministry of the Transport of July 18th, 1985, published in the official newspaper of the Franch
République of September 4th, 1985.
