PlexWriter 16/10/40 Operation Manual
Symptoms
Writing error occurs.
Buffer underrun.
Does not record at high speeds, such as 12X and 16X.
Possible Cause #1
•
DMA is not enabled on your computer.
Solution #1
•
Enable DMA for your operating system:
If you have Windows 95, 98 or ME, enable DMA as described on 21.
If you have Windows NT 4.0 SP 3 or higher, enable DMA as described on
page 22:
If you have Windows 2000, enable DMA as described on page 22.
•
Make sure DMA Mode 2 or PIO Mode 4 is enabled on your motherboard.
Possible Causes #2
•
Network is being used.
•
Mouse was moved or Windows screensaver activated while writing.
•
Other applications are running.
•
Power save mode is active.
Solution #2
•
If necessary, enable BURN-Proof in the recording software. (Some software
packages, such as Adaptec’s Easy CD Creator 4.02, have BURN-Proof support
for the PlexWriter drive permanently on, while other software allows the user to
select whether it is on or off.)
•
If your software does not support BURN-Proof and problems occur when
writing, reduce the load on CPU resources. Some ways to do this are:
Log off from the network.
Don’t use the mouse.
Disable the screensaver or power save mode.
Exit all other applications.
Possible Cause #3
•
Shortage of PC memory. If there is insufficient main memory in the PC, data
may be swapped to the hard disk, and this can cause a buffer underrun.
Solution #3
•
If necessary, enable BURN-Proof in the recording software. (Some software
packages, such as Adaptec’s Easy CD Creator 4.02, have BURN-Proof support
for the PlexWriter drive permanently on, while other software allows the user to
select whether it is on or off.)
•
Increase the PC’s main memory capacity.
