prohibited.

 4  GENERAL CONDITIONS

4.1 General conditions

- Please read this manual carefully before installation to ensure proper operation of

the device and the safety of the application.

Please contact our Technical Office (see paragraph SUPPORT) for any remaining

issues or questions.

- The general engineering rules, specific national regulations and the applicable direc-

tives must be observed when selecting and using the devices.

- The utilization implies compliance and knowledge of the ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU.

For use in potentially explosive areas, the installation rules stipulated by the technical

rules of the area for which the device is designed must be observed.

- Failure to comply with the requirements of the operating manual or incorrect use of

the device during operation can lead to the damage of the device and the loss of the

safety function performed by the device itself.

This will result in termination of the warranty on the item and will release the manu-

facturer from any liability.

- Store the products in their original packaging, in a dry place with temperature betwe-

en -40°C and +70°C

Attention: Before proceeding with the installation of the device, ensure that the

markings on the product are compatible with the ATEX rating of the site of use.

Failure to comply with this prescription can cause serious injury to persons in-

cluding death and/or serious damage to property.

4.2 Instruments

Normal screwdrivers and tool keys are required for the installation of these devices.

4.3 Electrical parameters

Attention: The electrical parameters are indicated on the product and on its

certificate and must be strictly observed.

4.4 Installation

The device can be fastened in any position.

- Always fasten the device with at least two screws of adequate strength and dimen-

sions for the required stresses. Tighten with torque between 2 and 3 Nm.

- Do not stress the device with bending and torsion.

- Tighten the cover, head and lever screws with a torque between 0.8 Nm and 1.2 Nm.

- Do not exceed the maximum actuation travel.

4.5 Installation requirements

- Do not perform any operation inside the device when there is voltage.

- Maintenance in the ambient temperature range (-20° C to +70° C) and compliance

with the instructions provided with the device are requirements for proper operation.

- During installation and connection, make sure that the conductors are correctly posi-

tioned and clamped in the terminals.

- Tighten the internal conductor terminals with a torque between 0.6 Nm and 0.8 Nm.

- Always use a cable gland suitable for the potentially explosive use environment and

the cable section. Pursuant to EN 60529, the cable gland must have a degree of pro-

tection IP at least equal to or greater than the device.

- Do not disassemble the device. If it is necessary to adjust the head of the device,

after having done so, reposition the head in the base with greatest care.

- At the end of the wiring, check that no contaminating element has been introduced

inside the device.

- Before closing the device cover verify the correct positioning of the gaskets.

- Verify that the electrical cables, wire-end sleeves, cable numbering systems and any

other parts do not obstruct the cover from closing correctly or if pressed between them

do not damage or compress the internal contact block.

- During and after the installation do not pull the electrical cables connected to the

device. If high traction is applied to the cables (not supported by an appropriate cable

gland) the device contact block may be damaged.

- To connect the external ground cable, use an eyelet terminal.

- When the wiring is complete and before activation, verify that the device identification

code corresponds both on the cover and on the housing.

4.6 Testing

No test period is required when installation is performed by qualified personnel.

 5  INSTRUCTIONS FOR PROPER USE

5.1  Installation

- Do not modify the device for any reason.

- Do not exceed the tightening torques specified in the present manual.

- If the device performs an operator protection function in accordance with EN ISO

14119, improper installation or tampering can cause serious injury to persons and

even death.

- These devices must not be bypassed, removed, turned or disabled in any other way.

- If the machine where the device is installed is used for a purpose other than that

specified, the device may not provide the operator with efficient protection.

- The safety category of the system according to EN ISO 13849-1, including the safety

device, also depends on the external components connected to it and their type.

- Before installation, make sure the device is not damaged in any part.

- Before installation, ensure that the connection cables are not powered.

- Avoid excessive bending of connection cables in order to prevent any short circuits

or power failures.

- Do not paint or varnish the device.

- Do not drill the device.

- Do not use the device as a support or rest for other structures, such as raceways,

sliding guides or similar.

- Before commissioning, make sure that the entire machine (or system) complies with

all applicable standards and EMC directive requirements.

- The switch fitting surface must always be smooth and clean.

- The documents necessary for a correct installation and maintenance are always

available in the following languages: English, French, German and Italian.

- Should the installer be unable to fully understand the documents, the product must

not be installed and the necessary assistance may be requested (see paragraph

SUPPORT).

- Always attach the following instructions to the manual of the machine in which the

device is installed.

- These operating instructions must be kept available for consultation at any time and

for the whole period of use of the device.

5.2 Do not use in the following environments

- In environments where continual changes in temperature cause the formation of

condensation inside the device.

- In environments where ice can form on the device.

- In environments containing strongly aggressive chemicals, where the products used

coming into contact with the device may impair its physical or functional integrity.

- In environments where dust and dirt can cover the device and by sedimenting stop

its correct working.

5.3 Mechanical stop

- The part of the machine that activates the device must always be fitted with an inde-

pendent mechanical stop.

- Do not use the device as a mechanical stop for the part of the machine that activates

it.

5.4 Maintenance and functional tests

Attention: Do not disassemble or try to repair the device.  In case of any mal-

function or failure, replace the entire device.

Attention: In case of damages or wear it is necessary to change the whole de-

vice. Correct operation cannot be guaranteed when the device is deformed or

damaged.

- The device installer is responsible for establishing the sequence of functional tests

to which the device is to be subjected before the machine is started up and during

maintenance intervals.

- The sequence of the functional tests can vary depending on the machine complexity

and circuit diagram, therefore the functional test sequence detailed below is to be

considered as minimal and not exhaustive.

- Perform the following sequence of checks before the machine is commissioned and

at least once a year (or after a prolonged shutdown):

1) Actuate the device and verify that the machine behaves as expected.

2) Release the device and verify that the machine behaves as expected.

3) Clean the device and avoid the formation of dust layers on the device itself.

4) All external parts must be undamaged.

5) If the device is damaged, replace it completely.

6) The device has been created for applications in dangerous environments, therefore

it has a limited service life. Although still functioning, after 20 years from the date of

manufacture the device must be replaced completely. The date of manufacture is pla-

ced next to the product code (see paragraph MARKINGS).

5.5 Caution when wiring

Attention: Do not open the device if voltage is present

- Keep the charge within the values specified in the electrical operation categories.

- Always connect the protection fuse (or equivalent device) in series to the NC safety

electrical contacts.
