SECTION 5:
System4
REMOTE VIEWER SOFTWARE
5.1
Introduction to Remote Viewer Software
The
Remote Viewer
software allows you to view recorded and live video from the
System4
Server on any remote
computer via a network or regular phone line. The remote computer does not need to have the
System4
Server
software or any special hardware installed. All it needs is a connection to the
System4
Server box and the
Remote
Viewer
software.
Remote Viewer
software downloads live and recorded video segments from the server so that you
can view and even save them on the remote PC.
NOTE:
DO NOT change the remote server name without following the procedures in the
Change Machine
Name On Network
folder of the
Start Menu
. Failure to do so will result in corruption of the database and cause
the system to malfunction.
The
System4
Server comes completely configured with the
Remote Viewer
software already installed. However, to use
the remote access, you must complete the following steps:
•
Connect the remote PC
. You must obtain the IP addresses for both the remote PC and the
System4
Server, then
set up the remote PC for networking. If the server is on a local network, the system administrator or Internet
service provider (ISP) can assign IP addresses. It is possible to dial directly into the
System4
Server.
•
Install the software
. While the
Remote Viewer
software is already installed on the
System4
Server, you must load
it onto the remote PC. To do this, insert the
System4
Server CD and double click on the
Autorun.exe
icon, then
select
System4
Remote
(if the CD does not auto run, manually run
SETUP.EXE
from the
Remote Viewer
folder
on the
System4
Server CD).
NOTE:
If you are unfamiliar with computer networking, it is recommended that you let a trained information
systems (IS) manager connect and configure the remote PC and server.
Connecting the Remote PC and Server
The procedure for configuring a remote PC depends on the desired type of connection. You can either dial directly
into the server through a modem, or connect over a network. You must first install a modem or a 100 BaseT ethernet
card into the remote PC by following the manufacturer's instructions. After that, you must physically connect the
System4
Server to the network or phone lines (the
System4
Server PC is supplied with a 100 BaseT ethernet card, but
not a modem). Then, you can proceed with the following configuration steps on the remote PC:
1. Install Dial-up Networking (for direct dial only).
2. Install TCP/IP.
3. Obtain IP addresses and connect to the server.
Consult with your IS manager for exact instructions based on the operating system used on the remote PC.
Installing and Running the Software
The
Remote Viewer
software is automatically included in the
System4
Server installation. To install the
Remote
Viewer
software on the remote PC, insert the
System4
Server CD and choose
Remote Viewer
when presented with
an installation option (if the disk doesn't auto run, manually run
SETUP.EXE
from the
Remote Viewer
folder on the
System4
Server CD).
