Functional Description
101
The RTM324 provides 24 T1/E1/J1 port connections through two 50-pin high density RJ21
connectors (12 ports on each connector). These can be converted to standard RJ48 modular
jacks using two RJ21 to RJ21 cables (ACC324-11968) and a rack mountable 19" break-out-box
(BOB) that converts the RJ21 to RJ48. See
“19" Break Out Box (BOB),” on page 113
.
Connections to the CompactPCI backplane are provided by:
•
Unshielded Type AB (with tabs) J5 connector, similar to unshielded twisted pair (UTP)
•
Shielded Type AB (with tabs) RJ3 connector, for enhanced shielding of 10/100/1G Ethernet signals
The RTM324 provides magnetics and protection for the T1/E1/J1 ports. The receive
terminating resistors are located on the CPC324.
One port of the circuit is shown in
Figure 6-4, “Magnetics and Protection for T1/E1/J1 Ports,”
below.

In addition, two RJ45 connectors on the RTM faceplate provide 10/100/1G Ethernet
connectivity. The magnetics for Ethernet reside on the CPC324 blade.
An 8-bit RTM identifier code is determined by factory installed zero ohm resistors and a switch
for Ethernet routing.
Table 6-1, “RTM Identifier,”
presents the RTM Identifiers for the RTM324
configurations.
