Referring
to
the
'before'
and
'after'
illustration here, and using your favoured
combination of saws and craft knives, files, or
burrs, cutting discs and grinders in a mini
electric drill, modify the drive train moulding as
follows:
remove the pivot support towers, including
their supporting ribs down to the wider
part of the moulding,
from the upstands either side of the inner
worm
bearing,
remove
the
angled
projections.
on the sides, remove the locating pips for
the pickup strips,
at the outer end of the moulding remove
the bogie frame retaining clips,
Cut off the inner, unpowered part of the
drive unit, which held the inner axle, about
7mm from the line of the centre axle, just
beyond the cross member in the lower part of the moulding.
Thin down the sides of the drive unit, by
about 0.5mm, in the region between the
two
white
arrows
in
the photo
(corresponding to the part of the Subframe
where
its
sides
have
three
etches
laminated).
At the inner end of the gear tower,
indicated by the black arrow in the photo,
remove the top corner of the tower, a
piece about 8mm long x 5mm deep.
Exercise some care as, in spite of being somewhat 'soft' and 'soapy', the plastic can crack
in a brittle manner if overstressed. Take great care at all stages not to damage the
retaining lugs for the main axle bearings.
Inner Worm Bearing Retainer
Remove one of the Worm Bearing Retainer
etches (D1) from the fret.
