Installation and Operating Instructions

FM relay unit

Art. no.:

493 o.A.

1. General description

- various operational modes selectable via rotary switch
- various LED functions, settable via potentiometers

(only in combination with particular attachments)

- connection to remote station possible
- non-volatile stored switching times

2. Installation

Work on 230 V mains may only be performed by trained and
authorised personnel. All such activities may only be performed
when mains voltage has been switched off.
This relay unit is designed for installation in a Ø 58 mm accessory
box. It has a prescribed installation orientation (TOP is marked)
to ensure that the attachment will also be subsequently mounted
in its proper orientation. Setting the potentiometer or the rotary
switch is only permissible when the mains supply voltage is
switched off.
The attachment used must be carefully plugged into the
appropriate socket when mains voltage is switched off. Guide
it carefully when plugging it in.

The following must be observed:

- prevailing statutes, standards and regulations.
- state of the art technology at the time of installation.
- the operating instructions for FM devices and attachments.
- the fact that operating instructions can only make general

reference to regulations but that these must then be interpreted
in conjunction with a specific system.

These devices may

 not

be used in systems whose operation

could present a hazard to persons, animals or property.

4.  Loads

Unbalanced loads should not be driven, i.e. only identical
transformers are to be connected in parallel; this is to ensure
that brightness remains constant in the lighting branch.
The transformer should have its nominal load and may not
be switched with a series-connected switch.

6.  Remote station circuit

Relay unit with remote station 490N

Permissible attachment for the remote station:

Art. no.:

Tactile attachment for dimmer and switch,

xx.420.xx

For switching via a remote station,

input 1

of the relay unit is to be

connected via the remote station with the phase leg L conductor.
Here it must be ensured that the L conductor for the relay unit is
the same phase leg.
The remote station's control line should be routed at a distance
from load-carrying lines.
A maximum wiring length of 50 m to the remote station switch
should not be exceeded.

Caution!!

Remote station switches may not contain a glow lamp

light as this could cause malfunctions due to the sensitive input!

Illuminated switches may only be used if they have a separate
connection to the neutral (N) line.

7. Troubleshooting & remedies

Lamps flicker briefly:

- mains voltage fluctuations
- ripple pulses

The dimmer switches without pressing the button:

- a remote station may have a glow lamp,

remove the glow lamp.

- short-circuit in the remote station's conductor

Lighting cannot be switched on:

- replace defective lamps
- repair short-circuit
- check wiring connections
- reset the earth-leakage circuit-breaker
- replace defective relay unit

Attachment switch does not work:

- incorrect function is selected, check the rotary switch
- check potentiometer

8.  Warranty

These operating instructions are an integral part of both the device
and our terms of warranty. They must be furnished to the user.
The technical design of the device is subject to change without
prior notification.

PEHA

products are manufactured and quality-

checked with the latest technology according to applicable national
and international regulations. Nevertheless, if a product should
exhibit a defect,

PEHA

warrants to make remedy as follows

(regardless of any claims against the dealer to which the end-
user may be entitled as a result of the sales transaction):

In the event of a justified and properly-established claim,

PEHA

shall exercise its prerogative to either repair or replace the defective
device. Further claims or liability for consequential damages are
explicitly excluded. A justifiable deficiency is one in which the device
exhibits a structural, manufacturing, or material defect that makes
it unusable or substantially impairs its utility at the time it is turned
over to the end-user. The warranty does not apply to natural wear,
unintended usage, incorrect connection, device tampering or the
effects of external influences. The warranty period is for 24 months
from the date of purchase by the end-user from a dealer and
ends not later than 36 months after the device's date of
manufacture. German law is applicable for the settlement of
warranty claims.
