cut off. The trimming can be done by cutting through the weed stems one by one. Keep the
string cutting head close above the ground and cut the weed at the bottom, never at height,
which could cause the weed to chatter and become entangled. Rather than cutting the full
length, use the end of the cutting string and slowly cut through the stem.
WARNING
DANGER
Do not use the steel cutting blade for lawn edging or scalping!
SCALPING AND EDGING
Both these operations are carried out with the string cutting head tilted at a sharp angle. Scalping is
removing of grass growth to bare ground.
Edging is removing of overgrown lawn overlapping sidewalks or driveways. When edging or scalping,
hold the brush cutter at a sharp angle to the ground and in a position in which the debris and stones
thrown up will not be bounced off the hard surfaces back at you. The edging and scalping procedures
are shown in the pictures below. However, every operator must find out his/her own angles to suit
his/her body size and cutting circumstances.
REPLACING NYLON CUTTING STRING
Before replacing the nylon cutting string, check the string cutting head for any damage. If
excessive wear and/or damage is found, the complete string cutting head must be replaced.
1. Stop the engine
2. Press the tabs (a), open the cutting head and remove the spool cover (b).Pull the spool out
of the head casing and remove the remaining string.
4. Cut 5 meters of new string of 2.4 mm diameter.
5. Bend the new string in the middle and insert the centre of this bend (c) into the slot (d) in the
empty spool.
6. Wind on the string in the direction of the arrows marked on the spool – one-half of the string
into the upper part of the spool (above the divider) and the other half into the lower part
(below the divider). When winding it on, keep the string sufficiently pre-tensioned to avoid it
twisting on the spool. After completing the string winding, insert both ends into the notches
(f) in the spool.
7. Put the spool back into the head casing. One at a time, release the string ends from the
spool notches and pull them through the holes (g) in the head casing. About 15 cm of string
should be pulled out on both sides of the head.
8. Fit back the spool cover (b) and snap it securely into place.
