Ember Protector
This Fireplace requires Non-Combustible Ember Protection extending from face of the unit out in front of the
Door. This must be a non-combustible material with a minimum K value of 23.7 btu/ft h ˚F.. - Equivalent to
20GA steel, tile, brick, slate, stone or metal that meets or exceeds UL1618 Type 1 - floor protector.
Safety Strip
The floor between the fireplace and the hearth extension/ember protection must be protected with a 2"
(50mm) deep safety metal strip equal to the width of the unit.
One half of the metal strip must be under the fireplace front and the other half must extend onto the floor and
under the hearth extension/ember protection as shown in Figure 32.
If the unit is raised up then a 2" x 2" angled piece can be used against the non combustible face.
