TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
2.1
INTRODUCTION
This section contains the functional description of the VS 2001 vehicular
equipment in order to give the maintenance technician a good knowledge of the
equipment operating principles.
2.2
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The VS 2001 equipment is made up of two main modules:

VS 2001 Radio Unit;
•
FPG1/A Universal Front Panel.
The VS 2001 Radio Unit contains three different cards:
•
Base Band card;
•
R/T
card;
•
P.A.
card.
The FPG1/A Front Panel provides the user with the interface controls, the audio
accessory connectors and an RS 232 serial line.
The VS 2001 equipment general configuration scheme is shown in Fig. 2.1.
2.2.1
VS 2001 connectors overview
In this paragraph the Radio Unit / Front Panel connector, the Front Panel and
Radio Unit external connectors are described (see Fig. 2.1).
Radio Unit / Front Panel connector
The connection between the Radio Unit (DB25 connector) and the Front Panel
(DB37 connector) provides RS232 serial line communication, low frequency audio
signal transfer and logic control signals (PTT, Emergency, etc.).
External connectors on the Front Panel
The J1 7-pin connector provides the connection of a microphone or an handset.
The J2 7-pin PEI connector provides the connection of an external PC for the
downloading of application software, setting-up of the operating parameters and
functional monitoring.
Both J1 and J2 connectors are placed on the front side of the FPG1/A.
