DTS
Digital audio compression technology
developed by Digital Theater Systems, Inc.
This technology uses 5.1 channel surround
sound.
The rear channel is stereo and in this format
there is also one separate channel for the
subwoofer. DTS also has 5.1 separate
channels in high quality digital audio. Precise
separation of all channels is ensured by
storing the channels on a disc and digitally
processing them.
DVD disk
The disc can store up to 8 hours of images
even though the diameter of the disc is
the same as that of a regular CD. The data
capacity of a single-layer single-sided DVD
is 4.7 GB (Gigabytes), which is 7 times the
capacity of a CD. The data capacity of a
double-layer single-sided DVD is 8.5 GB, a
single-layer double-sided DVD
The drive is 9.4 GB and the capacity of a
double-layer double-sided DVD is 17 GB.
Image data uses MPEG format
2, one of the world’s most common digital
data compression technology standards. The
image data is compressed approximately
1:40 to its original size. The DVD also utilizes
a different level of encoding technology that
changes the character of the data according
to the current state of the reproduced image.
Audio data is recorded in Dolby Digital format
and PCM, allowing you to enjoy the sound
reproduction as faithfully as possible to your
environment.
DVDs are even equipped with various other
features such as angle change, multilingual
mutations and Parental Control.
Multi-angle function
On some discs, scene views are recorded
from multiple angles.
Multi-language feature
On some discs, audio or subtitles are
recorded in multiple languages.
Parental Control
A DVD feature that allows you to restrict
playback by the age of the user and the level
of restriction for the country. The limitation is
different for each disk; when this function is
turned on, playback is completely disabled,
violent scenes are skipped or replaced by
other scenes, etc.
Playback Control (PBC)
Signals encoded on VIDEO CDs (Ver. 2.0) for
playback control.
Using the menu menus recorded on
VIDEO CDs with PBC functions, you can
enjoy simple interactive programs, search
programs, and more.
Title
The longest stretch of picture or music on a
DVD; fi, etc., on a fi rm on a video disc; or an
album, etc., for music on an audio disc. Each
title is assigned a number that allows you to
easily find the desired title.
Track (Track)
Sections of a picture or music on a CD or
VIDEO CD. Each track is assigned a number
so you can find the track you want.
VIDEO CD
Compact disc containing fiction Image data
uses MPEG 1 format, one of the world’s
most widespread digital data compression
technology standards. The image data is
compressed approximately 1: 140 to its
original size. This means that a 12 cm VIDEO
CD can contain a maximum of 74 minutes of
played fi VIDEO CDs also contain audio data.
Sounds outside the audible hearing threshold
are compressed while audible sounds are
stored without compression. VIDEO CDs can
contain up to 6 times more audio data than
standard audio CDs.
There are 2 versions of VIDEO CDs.
• Version 1.1: You can only play fiction with
audio.
• Version 2.0: You can play back images
High Definition and PBC features.
This device can play both versions.
