Troubleshooting—Continued
If power outage occurs or the power plug is disconnected:
• Memory is normally retained for two weeks. If the programmed preset channels are lost, program them again.
• The clock data is lost. Set the clock and timers again.
The remote controller does not function correctly.
• Make sure that the batteries have been installed in the correct direction (po/–). (See page 11.)
• Replace both batteries with new ones. (Do not mix different types of batteries or new and old batteries.)
• The distance between the remote controller and the unit may be too great, or there may be an object between
them.
• The remote control sensor on the unit may be subjected to bright light (inverter fluorescent light or sunlight).
• The unit is placed behind the tinted windows of an audio rack or entertainment center.
“D. In Unlock” appears on the display or the DIGITAL indicator flashes.
• The optical digital cable is not connected, or the power to the connected external component is not turned on.
No sound is output from the connected component.
• Check to see if the optical digital cable is bent or damaged.
• Add an optical phono equalizer if the turntable does not include a phono equalizer.
Timer playback or recording does not work.
• The clock should be set correctly.
If the clock is not set, playback or recording does not work. Make sure you program the current time.
(See page 19.)
• Timer operation is not activated if the power to the unit is turned on before the timer On time. Be sure to place
the unit in Standby mode before timer operation starts. (See page 64.)
• Programmed time may overlap with another timer. Be sure to set multiple timers such that time ranges do not
overlap. (See page 60.)
• If you try to set the Sleep timer or press TIMER during timer operation, the current timer setting is cancelled.
• The timer operation uses the volume level that was set before the unit was placed in Standby mode. Set an
appropriate volume level before you place the unit in Standby mode. (See page 64.)
• Make sure that the
cable and RCA/phono audio cables are connected correctly.
• You must load a recordable MD for timer recording to function.
• If you selected an external Onkyo component for the timer operation, you must specify the source name.
• Locate the speakers far from the TV.
Immediately before an MD is ejected or the unit is placed in Standby mode, the information regarding the MD
recording and edits are written to the TOC of the MD. Do not disconnect the power plug or apply vibration to
the unit while the TOC indicator is lit or flashing.
Can’t dub?
“Cannot Rec” appears on the display. (See page 67.)
• The current MD is for playback only. Use a recordable MD.
“Protected” appears on the display. (See page 67.)
• The MD is write-protected. See Precautions for handling a MiniDisc (MD) on page 7.
“Disc Full” appears on the display. (See page 67.)
• The MD has no space available for recording. Use a new MD.
“Retry Error” appears on the display. (See page 67.)
• Eject the MD, insert it again, then try recording again.
