How to use the heart rate zone alert
Make sure the heart rate zone alert is
activated following instructions of the
previous chapter ‘How to turn the heart
rate zone alert ON/OFF’. Gets a measure-
ment following the appropriate instructions
in the section ‘How to get a heart rate
reading’. If the reading falls:
• Within your objective heartbeat zone, the
watch will beep once and the heart rate digits will remain still.
• Above the upper limit of your objective heartbeat zone, the watch will beep
twice and the display will flash with the ‘H’ indicator activated.
• Below the lower limit of your objective heartbeat zone, the watch will beep twice and the
display will flash with the ‘L’ indicator activated.
7. Potential causes for no heart reading or long response time
1. Cause: Dry skin.
Solution: Apply conductive gel of saliva thoroughly to fingers/wrist area. Water might help.
2. Cause: Fingers are not firmly placed over the upper contacts [S1] and [S2].
Solution: As the fingertips do not allow enough contact to get an ECG reading the fingers
should be used. Ensure that the fingers and not the fingertips lay flat and firmly over the
contacts and watch is firmly placed on the wrist.
3. Cause: User in Motion during measurement.
Solution: Place your index finger on the lower contact [S2] and your middle finger on the
upper contact [S1], holding the watch firmly on your wrist. This will ensure good contact
even while walking or jogging with arms swinging naturally.
4. Cause: The back sensor cannot identify the heartbeats due to a thin layer of body
fat that isolates the ECG-signal.
Solution: Wipe the wrist and the back contact [S3] of the watch with a clean tissue.
5. Hairy wrist:
Solution: Apply conductive gel to the wrist area.
6. Cause: Low battery.
Solution: The battery might be low and need to be replaced.
