We recommend that you connect the speed bar before every flight. In many situa-
tions it can offer additional safety.
Stirrup
Instead of the pod, the SOMNIUM can be flown with a stirrup (supplied). This al-
lows the legs to be stretched and supported which offers a lot of extra comfort
– especially on long flights.
We recommend only using the stirrup supplied by NOVA. The integrated bungee
should be used to connect the stirrup to the speed bar.
Water ballast
The SOMNIUM can be flown with water ballast. A ballast bag can be stored in the
compartment under the leg loops.
Please note:
using a ballast bag makes handling the harness on the ground more
difficult and may change the flying characteristics of the wing.
Schools
This harness is not suitable for use in paragliding schools.
Towing
The SOMNIUM is suitable for towing. For questions on towing please contact your
NOVA partner. Before take off, speak to the winch driver - especially if it is the first
time you have used the winch.
It is essential you use a separate carabiner or tow release.
Acro
The SOMNIUM was not designed for aerobatics or acro.
Tandem
This harness is neither suitable for passenger nor tandem pilot. It should not be
used for dual flying.
Care, repair and maintenance
Maintenance
Our harnesses are made from durable materials that can withstand a lot of usage
and stress. However, how the harness is treated is a major factor in how long it
is usable. We recommend regularly checking the harness for wear and damaged
stitching or straps.
If you notice any faults, we recommend contacting your NOVA Service Partner im-
mediately. For repairs, please contact NOVA or a NOVA Service Partner. If you find
any faults in critical structural parts (straps, buckles, hang points) we recommend
you do not use the harness!
Do not modify the harness. For repairs please contact one of our approved service
centres.
At least once a year, the harness should have a full inspection. Check all seams,
straps and buckles. This inspection can be combined with a parachute repack. If
you have deployed the parachute, we recommend inspecting the connecting strap
and hang points. This inspection should be performed by an approved service cen-
tre.
Minimise the unnecessary exposure of your harness to UV radiation. Avoid tempe-
ratures below -20˚C and above 60˚C. Protect it from moisture, salt water, acid or
base liquids and treat it well. Look after it and store it as recommended.
The following points are pertinent to its longevity:
• Do not expose the harness to large temperature fluctuations (e.g. in your car). Du-
ring long-term storage make sure there is plenty of ventilation and air circulation
(to minimise condensation).
• After landing, pack the harness away quickly. This protects it from harmful UV
rays.
• If the harness is damp, dry it at room temperature either inside or outside in a
shady place. Please note: repack your parachute!
• If the harness comes into contact with salt water, it must be thoroughly cleaned
in fresh water. Then follow the steps described above to dry it.
• In the case of an incident (e.g. a hard scuff or an impact), ask an expert to examine it.
• Only use fresh water and a soft brush to clean the harness.
• Regularly check straps, seams and buckles. These must be undamaged.
