Basic settings
Shoulder straps
The shoulder straps must be adjusted to suit the height of the pilot. The correct
position is when the strap is loose enough so that it does not press into the shoul-
der when the pilot is seated, but it is tight enough to support the pilot.
The length of the strap is completely adjustable. Again, it is essential that both
straps are symmetric.
Lumbar straps
The seating position can be adjusted using the lumbar straps. Some pilots prefer
a slightly reclined position, others prefer to sit upright. Generally, we recommend
the basic setting (the red stitching at the metal buckle).
Pulling the loop will produce a more upright seating position. Opening the buckles
releases the strap and allows a more reclined position. Again, it is essential that
both straps are symmetric.
The SOMNIUM is fitted with two lumbar straps. Both should be tight.
Leg loops/chest strap
The leg loops connect the pilot to the harness. On the SOMNIUM they also form
the chest strap.
The width of the chest strap has a major influence on the flying characteristics of
your paraglider. The wider the chest strap, the more agile the handling. The tigh-
ter, the more damped. We deliberately don’t specify a set distance: the correct
chest strap setting is a question of individual preference. By pulling the adjust-
ment loop, the strap can be tightened in flight.
Leg loop length
Depending on your preference, you can adjust the length of the leg loops. Find the
adjustment to suit you.
Generally we recommend a position which is not overly reclined. The SOMNIUM
is designed so that the optimum flying characteristics are achieved when the har-
ness is in its basic settings (slightly reclined upper body, not lying back too far).
Please note: this illustration without the pod makes it easier
to see the adjustment straps.
