Adjusting the pod
The SOMNIUM is fitted with a pod. This makes the harness more aerodynamic,
helps you to keep warm and it allows for long and comfortable flights. The correct
adjustment is important:
1. Inside the pod you will find four blue straps. Two at the top and two at the bot-
tom. Adjust all four to the same length using the plastic adjustment buckles
I
You can judge the length by checking the spare length on the blue straps.
A measuring tape could be useful.
2. Now the length of the pod has to be adjusted. If it is correctly adjusted, the legs
can be fully extended with a light pressure on the feet. However, the pressure
should not to too great. This would be too tiring in flight. Shorten or lengthen the
blue straps to suit.
3. If possible, the pod should have no creases. Diagonal creases are usually the
result of an asymmetric adjustment of the upper and lower straps. If there are
obvious creases, please check the symmetry of the adjustments.
4. The bottom of the pod should be parallel to the ground. This is the most aero-
dynamic position. A small tilt down is acceptable. The pod should never point
upwards.
5. Once you have found the correct position (the underside of the pod is horizon-
tal or parallel to the ground) you can begin fine tuning the harness. Change the
length of the shoulder and lumbar straps (as described above) to suit your per-
sonal preferences.

6. After fine tuning, check the angle of the pod again. A change to the lumber
straps leads to the centre of gravity moving forwards or backwards. Your pod
must be adjusted accordingly.
Flying without the pod
The SOMNIUM can be flown without the pod. Please note that you will require a
separate front-mounted parachute, because the standard parachute container is
integrated into the pod.
Converting the harness should be performed as follows:
1. Open the screwgate carabiners
II
and removed them along with the blue straps.
2. Disconnect the main carabiner
III
from the hang points and remove both the
white Dyneema loops. These are the pod hang points.
3. Undo the Velcro
IV
that connects the harness and the pod.
4. Open both clips
V
situated in a small slit as well as the clips at the end of the
red parachute channel.
5. Open the parachute maillon which is situated in the parachute container. Place
the parachute connection bridle at the top of the harness and secure it.
6. The pod can now be removed.
7. The stirrup can now be fitted, adjusted to the right length and connected to
the speed bar using the bungee. The two loops marked
II
should be used as
connectors.
To fit the pod, follow the same instructions in reverse order. The parachute connec-
tion bridle must be threaded back through the channel in the direction of the front
container. Finally, the parachute maillon must be closed and the parachute refitted
as stipulated. It is essential that the pod straps are correctly connected to the
main hang points (carabiners).
This works in the following way:
1
The main hang points consist of three straps – the red hip support, the black
hang point and the red lumbar strap. Hold them in the correct position and order.
First thread the white Dyneema loop of the pod through the hip support (marked
red).
2
Then the loop must bypass the black hang point. Do not (!) thread the Dyneema
loop through – it must pass the black hang point on the outside.
