Several remedial measures are available to reduce the consequences of the magnetic blowing effect.

In order to favorably influence the arc, the
earth ground terminals must be placed as
symmetrically as possible to the point of
welding.

In the event of a one-sided earth ground
terminal the arc blows away from the
terminal. The condition can be eliminated
by additional metal plates.

The polarity in the illustrations provided refers to ferromagnetic materials. When welding aluminum, reverse
polarity is normally used.

Influences upon the arc as a result of welding
cable itself can largely be avoided by turning the
weld gun through 90°.

When welding sections, arc blowing can be
reduced by repositioning the earth ground
terminal and additional metal plates.
