Questions and Answers C-3
How do I access my network using a PCMCIA Token Ring network card?
First, check the card to see if Card and Socket Services and/or Windows 95 rec-
ognizes it. If not, refer to the manual that came with the card for information on using its
Enabler drivers.
If, as is usual, the PC card was shipped with drivers, we recommend using those drivers.
PCMCIA Card and Socket Service drivers have extended support to a wide range of
PCMCIA devices, however, not all cards are supported. Check the manual that came
with the card.
What drivers do I use with non-NEC modems?
If the NEC-supplied PCMCIA Card and Socket Service drivers do not support
the PC card, remove those drivers and use the Enablers that are supplied with the card.
See “Enablers” and “CONFIG.SYS” in Chapter 4.
In which slots do my PC cards go?
Your PCMCIA cards (PC cards) can go into either slot if they are NEC-
approved cards and use NEC loaded CardWizard drivers. Other software may not sup-
port the use of both slots. Type III cards only fit in one slot (slot 0).
Is there any instance when a modem or network card is only supported in
one slot?
This could be true in cases where the PC card firmware is being upgraded. Read
the release notes that accompany the upgrade.
It may also apply when you are using Enabler software as opposed to Socket Services.
Some Enablers only allow the use of Slot 0.
