EPEAT™
The EPEAT environmental protection
certificate of the American EPA
(Environmental Protection Agency)
is a comparative tool to rate PCs,
notebooks and monitors using 51 environmental criteria, such as, for example,
energy consumption and efficiency, product lifetime, use of hazardous materials,
recycling, packaging and certification of the manufacturing plants according to
iSO 14001. Fulfilment of 23 obligatory criteria allows a device to be awarded
with Bronze certification. Silver or Gold certification depends on the fulfilment of
further, optional requirements (21 for Gold, 14 for Silver). The NEC MultiSync
®
EA series desktop displays have all been awarded Silver certification, whilst
the MultiSync
®
EA221, EA241 and EA261 models with black cabinets have
been awarded with the top Gold certificate. For those three displays not only
the optional required minimum content of postconsumer recycled plastic was
used, but even a higher content.
Carbon Footprint Meter
Activating the Eco Mode function allows the CO
2
emissions of the monitor to be substantially reduced
by reducing the brightness of the display or running it
in Power Save Mode. using the display in Eco Mode
reduces energy consumption by at least 20% and hence also CO
2
emissions.
The Carbon Footprint Meter that has been integrated into the MultiSync
®
EA
series informs users in real time the actual and cumulated savings in carbon
dioxide that have been achieved by the display, as compared to average values
listed in the manual.
The Carbon Footprint Meter is simply called up using the On Screen display
(OSd) and acts as an additional device motivating users to employ the monitor
in an efficient and ecologically-optimised fashion.
Note: The Carbon Footprint Meter only serves as an indicator of the CO
2
emissions. Savings are
not achieved simply by calling up the function.
