Verifying Read of MICR Characters
This test reads the characters on a check and prints a hexadecimal dump of the characters
on the receipt. It is run during normal operation (on-line mode).
Caution:
The DIP switches are pre-set at the factory and should generally not be changed.
If you must change them, do so carefully to avoid changing other functions.
Note:
The operator panel may differ depending on the model. To put the printer on- or
off-line, use a paper clip or other pointed object to depress the plunger (in place of the On
Line button) on models with that item.
1. Press the On Line button (or plunger) to put the printer off-line.
2. Set the DIP switches to the settings in the table.
Switch 1 must be set to Off. Switch 8: On = knife, Off = non-knife

3. Close the front cover and press the On Line button (or plunger) to put the printer on-
line.
The green LED flashes when the printer cycles. The settings are entered into EEROM.
4. Insert a check into the slip station.
The printer waits until a check is inserted and detected before the platen closes and the
characters are read by the MICR check reader. The decoded data is printed to the
receipt, the platen is opened, and the test is re-started.
If the MICR check reader misreads the characters, question marks “?” are printed on
the receipt. If the MICR check reader is unable to read any characters, “NO MICR
CHARACTERS” is printed on the receipt.
5. Press the On Line button (or plunger) to put the printer off-line and open the front
cover.
6. Set the DIP switches back to the settings for normal operation (on-line mode).
See “Switch Settings” in “Chapter 5: Communication” for the settings.
7. Close the front cover and press the On Line button (or plunger) to put the printer on-
line.
The green LED flashes when the printer cycles. The settings are entered into EEROM.
