I
nstalling the Boiler 19
3.1 Choosing an Installation Location
When choosing an installation location, you
m
ust ensure
that the location provides ade
q
uate clearance for the boiler,
ade
q
uate flueing and drainage options, and sufficient access to
gas, water, and electrical supplies.
Carefully consider the following factors when choosing an
installation location:
Compliance Requirements
This boiler
m
ust be installed by
q
ualified personnel in
co
m
pliance with the applicable Laws and Regulations.
I
n general, these Laws and Regulations are the Basic Gas
I
nstallation Standards, the Heating, Air Conditioning and
Do
m
estic Water
I
nstallation Regulation and all other local
regulations.
Access to Utilities
Ɣ
Water–the installation location should be near where the
do
m
estic water supply enters the building.
Ɣ
Gas–the installation location should be near where the gas
supply enters the building.
Ɣ
Electricity–the installation location should be near where the
electrical supply enters the building.
Humidity and Contact with Water
When installing the boiler, avoid places with excessive hu
m
idity.
The boiler has electric gas ignition co
m
ponents. Water spray or
droppings can get inside the boiler and da
m
age the ignition
syste
m
. The boiler
m
ust be installed in a way to ensure that
the gas ignition syste
m
co
m
ponents are protected fro
m
water
(dripping, spraying, rain, etc.) during operation and service.
I
f the boiler is installed in a very hu
m
id roo
m
(a shower roo
m
or bathroo
m
, for exa
m
ple), the Low Voltage regulation and
the Technical Building Code
m
ust be observed for correct
installation.
Proximity to Fixtures and Appliances
I
nstall the boiler near fixtures that deliver or use hot water,
such as bathroo
m
, kitchen, and laundry roo
m
faucets. Select
a location that
m
ini
m
ises the water piping re
q
uired between
m
ajor fixtures.
I
f the distances are long or if the user re
q
uires
“instant“ hot water, installation of a recirculation line which
circulates do
m
estic hot water back to the boiler fro
m
the
furthest fixture is reco
mm
ended.
I
nsulate as
m
uch of the hot
water supply and recirculation lines as possible. For
m
ore
infor
m
ation about the water supply, refer to "4.2
I
nstalling a
Do
m
estic Hot Water (DHW) Syste
m
” on page 23.
Adequate Drainage
The boiler produces a significant a
m
ount of condensate during
operation. This condensate
m
ust be re
m
oved fro
m
the boiler,
and suitably treated if national legislation so re
q
uires. The boiler
should be located near a suitable drain and where da
m
age fro
m
a possible leak will be
m
ini
m
al.
I
nstalling the boiler in a location
without a drain will void the warranty and Navien will not be
responsible for water da
m
age that occur as a result. For
m
ore
infor
m
ation about condensate drainage, refer to “4.3 Connecting
the Condensate Drain Line” on page 23.
The boiler
m
ust be located in an area where leakage of the unit
or connections will not result in da
m
age to the area adjacent
to the appliance or to lower floors of the structure. When such
locations cannot be found, installation of an ade
q
uately drained
drain pan under the boiler is highly reco
mm
ended. When
installing the drain pan, ensure that the installation does not
restrict co
m
bustion air flow.
Adequate Flue and Ventilation
The boiler
m
ust be installed in a sufficiently ventilated area with
openings directly to the outside of the building (as re
q
uired by
the Gas
I
nstallations Regulation). The boiler
m
ust be located so
that the grilles of the pre
m
ises are not obstructed and nor
m
al
boiler
m
aintenance is possible even if installed between ite
m
s
of furniture.
Select a location that re
q
uires
m
ini
m
al flue. Consider flue
restrictions caused by windows, doors, air intakes, gas
m
eters,
foliage, and other buildings. For
m
ore infor
m
ation about flue
syste
m
, refer to “6. Flue Syste
m
” on page 29.
To ensure ade
q
uate flue and ventilation, follow these guidelines:
Ɣ
M
aintain proper clearances fro
m
any openings in the building.
Ɣ
I
nstall the boiler with a
m
ini
m
u
m
clearance of 300
mm
above
an exterior grade or as re
q
uired by local codes.
Ɣ
Do not enclose the flue ter
m
ination.
Ɣ
I
nstall the exhaust flue in an area that is free fro
m
any
obstructions, where the exhaust will not accu
m
ulate.
Ɣ
Do not install the boiler where
m
oisture fro
m
the exhaust
m
ay
discolor or da
m
age walls.
Ɣ
Do not install the boiler in bathroo
m
s, bedroo
m
s, or any
other occupied roo
m
s that are nor
m
ally kept closed or not
ade
q
uately ventilated.
The re
q
uire
m
ents and reco
mm
endations stipulated in the
Regulation for Heating
I
nstallations in Buildings (R
I
TE) and any
other applicable legislation in this field
m
ust be observed.
