4.6 Operational checks
DANGER
Components are moving or rotating.
Risk of crushing, danger of parts of the body being caught or pulled in!
• Operate the engine at low load only. Keep clear of the danger zone of the engine.
WARNING
High level of engine noise when the engine is running.
Risk of damage to hearing!
• Wear ear protectors.
Operational checks

Engine oil Check engine oil level (→ Page 180).
Engine under load,
engine at nominal speed Visually inspect engine for leaks and general condition;
Check speed, pressures and temperatures;
Check engine and external lines for leaks;
Check for abnormal running noises and vibration;
Check exhaust color (→ Page 94).
Air filter Check signal ring position of service indicator (→ Page 177);
Replace air filter (→ Page 175) if the signal ring is completely visible in the
service indicator observation window.
Fuel prefilter Drain water and contaminants from fuel prefilter (→ Page 162).
Check pointer position of differential pressure gage at fuel prefilter
(→ Page 161).
HT coolant pump Check relief bore for oil and coolant discharge and contamination
(→ Page 206).
Raw water pump Check relief bore for oil and water discharge and contamination
(→ Page 208).
