2. Instructions for use
2.1 Before use
a) Make sure you are in a satisfactory condition allowing you to use the ladder. Using the ladder in
certain health conditions or madications, in excessive alcohol or drug consumption may be
dangerous.
b) When transporting ladders on roof racks or in vans, make sure their placement and fixation is
suitable to prevent damage.
c) Check the given state and functionality of all parts upon the delivery of the ladder, prior to the
first use.
d) At the start of the day when the ladder is to be used for the first time, carry out a visual
inspection of the ladder to see whether or not it is damaged, and whether it is safe to use it.
e) In case of professional users, regular inspection is required (see periodical inspection once a
year).
f) Find out whether or not the ladder is suitable for the given activity.
g) Do not use damaged ladder.
h) Remove any dirt from the ladder, e.g., wet paint, mud, oil, or snow.
i) Carry out risk assessment prior to using the ladder at the working site.
j) Do not modify the ladder construction.
2.2 Placement and positioning of the ladder
a) The ladder must be placed in a suitable place and in a suitable slant of 75° (1:4), with rungs or
steps in the given level; step-ladder fully opened.
b) Lockable facilities in types with wind pipes must be secured completely.
c) The ladder must be used on a straight, horizontal, and immovable surface.
d) Supporting ladder must be leaning against flat, non-crumbling surface, and it must be secured
before use, e.g. tied up, or suitable stabilising elements should be used. Both upper ends must
be leaning against the wall in such a way to transfer evenly the distributed load against the
wall. Do not use a ladder leaning against a post without support secured with a chain.
e) The ladder must never be relocated from above.
f) When setting up the ladder, consider the risk of collision of the ladder, e.g. with pedestrians,
vehicles, or doors within the working premises; if possible, secure the doors (except for
emergency exits) and windows.
g) Search for any electrical risks within the working premises, e.g. electrical or other overhead
wiring, other non-protected electrical facilities.
h) The ladder must stand on its feet; not on its rungs or steps.
i) Ladders must not stand on slippery surfaces (such as ice, glossy surfaces, or highly soiled solid
surfaces), unless sufficient measures have been adopted to prevent the slipping of the ladder,
or unless the soiled surface is cleaned sufficiently.
j) Do not move the ladder while standing on it.
2.3 Using the ladder - general safety rules
a) Do not exceed the overall load of the given type of ladder. Max. 150 kg, or 120 kg when using
articulated ladder in the “platform” position with mats.
b) Do not lean out. The user has to keep the centre of his/her body between the side rails during
the work, with both legs on the same step/rung.
c) Do not step aside from the supporting ladder onto a higher level without additional security,
such as being tied in or using a suitable stabilizing feature.
d) Do not use step-ladders to access higher levels (higher storeys).
