The Marker Locating Mode displays essential information about the marker the user is trying to detect under
-
ground with a representative icon and text description of the target utility. For marker locating, the peak signal
bar graph and numerical signal sensitivity are displayed to pinpoint the position of the buried marker. Locate the
maximum peak signal to determine the marker location and calculate depth.
Four softkeys are available to operate the locating instrument – main
Menu
access,
Type
to switch marker types,
Gain
to allow auto and manual gain switching, and a shortcut softkey. The example shown uses the shortcut
softkey to switch from Line Locate (
LL
) mode from Marker Mode (
M
) operation.
5.2.1 Changing the Marker Type
Continuously press the <Type> softkey until the desired icon is selected and bound in the box.

5.2.2 Measuring Depth
Once located, the marker depth can be calculated by pressing downward on the 4-way navigation button. The
depth can be recorded as a “Marked” position if desired by pressing the <Mark> softkey.

5.2.3 RFID Smart Marker Read Mode
In Marker Locate mode, the i5000 MetroMark has the capability of locating and reading the RFID of active mark
-
ers. This information is the serial number associated with the buried marker.
To activate a marker reading, the <Read> softkey must be selected as a shortcut softkey. Review the Menu Sys
-
tem for setup instructions. If detected, the detected marker’s ten digit serial number will be displayed.
