4.2 Testing Menu
The testing menu configures the NT10G05 for operation either as a loopback /
reflector unit or to act as a tester performing RFC-2544 or Y.1564 performance
testing.
By default, following a factory default the NT10G05 will be in L2 Loopback mode in
which it will perform a MAC source and destination address swapping loopback. The
testing menu controls the selection of operating mode through the selection of the
tester mode configuration item.
4.2.1 Ping
Ping, or ICMP Echo, is a very useful tool for establishing communications between
two host devices.
The Ping protocol will send regular test packets to a defined host IP address as
shown in the menu below:
Starting the Ping test will initiate a background task to send ICMP Echo requests to
the destination IP, and will then check for the ICMP Echo response from the remote
host.
Note, by default Windows firewall blocks ICMP ping and so pinging a laptop will
generally see no response. It is possible to open the firewall for ICMP, please refer
to Microsoft for instructions.
