3. Operating the machine
3.1 Starting off
Before starting work with the edging machine,
check the following:
• If the machine has not been used for a longer
period, check that all parts are mounted and
attached correctly, and that all screws are tight.
Inspect it for damage to ensure that it will func-
tion faultlessly.
• Attach the dust bag to the suction tube.
• Using the roller adjustment aid, check that
the spacing between the floor and each of the
machine’s two rollers is the same. If it is not the
same, adjust as necessary in order to achieve the
best sanding result.
• Check that the edging machine’s power cables
are in good order and free of damage. Only once
these steps have been completed should you
connect the edging machine to a power supply.
• While sanding, do not leave the power cable
lying on the floor so as to avoid running over it.
• Keep your hand on the grip at all times when
the motor is running.
2.3 Operating safety tips
• Only use the machine once it is fully assem
-
bled.
• Make sure that all protective mechanisms and
covers are in place and firmly attached.
• This edging machine should be used only
by trained professionals who have read and
understood these instructions regarding use and
maintenance, are familiar with the machine and
have received on-site instruction.
• Operation of the edging machine is permis
-
sible only if special safety precautions are taken.
When using the machine, you must wear gloves,
safety goggles, ear protection, and protective
clothing as well as a breathing mask.
• Keep your hands, hair, feet and any loose cloth
-
ing far away from moving parts.
• When taking breaks or making repairs to the
machine, switch it off and disconnect it from the
power supply.
• While working with the edging machine, do
not touch any metal objects such as radiators,
railings, etc.
• Do not take out the dust bag while the motor
is running.
• Use the machine solely for treating dry, flat
surfaces. The edging machine is not suitable for
sanding furniture, stairs, etc. Do not under any
circumstances use the machine on metal objects
– this is an acute fire hazard!
• The dust bag must be emptied when it is half-
full, or whenever you have finished working with
the machine. Keep the dust bag well away from
sources of fire or sparks.
• Sanding dust should be stored in a fire-proof
metal container.
the sanded surface and prove detrimental to the
sanding result.
3.2.6 Dust bag
Once the dust bag has been filled halfway,
remove it from the suction tube, take it outdoors
and vigorously shake out the dust. Never empty
the dust bag in an enclosed area, since inhala-
tion of sanding dust can be hazardous to one’s
health. Store sanding dust in a metal container
so that it does not present a fire hazard. Clean
the dust bag in a washing machine using cold
water in order to unblock its pores, prevent its
effectiveness being reduced, and significantly
increase its operating lifetime.
Never leave the machine unsupervised with a
full dust bag: This presents an acute fire hazard
because the dust can ignite by itself.
3.2.7 Lubrication
The sanding disc coupling, the spaces between
the bearings, and the ball bearings should be
oiled after every 700 hours of service.
3.2 Operating the machine
The machine’s rollers should have equal clear-
ance to the floor in order to prevent tilting of
the sanding wheel. A test sanding will let you
determine whether the rollers are correctly
positioned. During sanding check the tension of
the V-belt regularly (see section 3.2.3).
3.2.1 Changing the abrasive
Disconnect the machine from the power supply.
Tip the machine and lay it down so that the
suction tube lies on the floor. Hold the sanding
wheel in place. Loosen the countersunk nuts
to remove the sanding wheel. Make sure the
sanding wheel is clean before you apply a new
sanding disc. The new sanding disc must be
undamaged; otherwise, the sanding wheel itself
could sustain damage.
3.2.2 Changing the attachment
Before changing the attachment, disconnect
the machine from the power supply. Loosen the
adjustment bolt. Then loosen and remove the
two mounting screws. Now you can remove the
attachment. Each attachment comes with a V-
belt of the appropriate length.
3.2.3 Changing the V-belt
Remove the belt guard by loosening and remov-
ing the three screws, and remove the worn-out
V-belt. Mount the new V-belt on the driveshaft.
To make this easier, you can remove the sanding
wheel by extracting the conical disc and the
three mounting screws.
Once you have installed the new V-belt, re-
mount the sanding wheel and tighten the mount-
ing screws of the belt guard. Adjust the tension
of the V-belt by means of the adjustment bolt.
3.2.4 Sanding chamber
Clean the attachment of sanding dust regularly
using a vacuum cleaner. This will prevent any
hazardous accumulation of sanding dust and
keep the edging machine operating at optimal
effectiveness.
3.2.5 Rollers
Regularly clean the machine’s body and rollers,
since any dirt could cause scratches or ridges in
