Decorative Cover for Vent Cap
It is acceptable to install a decorative stone, metal or terra cotta cover to disguise the vent terminal/cap used on Mendota
Fireplaces if the decorative cover meets the following minimum requirements:
1.
The decorative cover shall be manufactured from noncombustible materials.
2.
The decorative cov
er shall provide a minimum of 3”
clearance from the outer surface of the vent cap to the inner walls
of the decorative cover on sides all of the vent cap.
3.
Fresh air openings shall be provided at a level equal to or below the fresh air openings in the vent cap. The fresh air
openings shall provide a minimum open area of 60 square inches. This fresh air opening area shall be broken into at
least two equal openings (or more if possible). Each opening shall have a minimum height of
2”
and a length that
provides the required opening to yield a total of 60 square inches, minimum.
4.
The fresh air openings shall be protected in a manner that prevents the accumulation of snow which can plug the fresh
air openings.
