Before boiling water for the first time

Read all operating and safety instructions carefully.

Make sure that the voltage in your home corresponds
with the voltage indicated on the bottom of the
appliance.
!
Clean the appliance by filling the kettle with clear cold
water and bring the water to a boil.

When the appliance is switched on, some parts of the
appliance become hot. Do not touch.
!
Use and store the appliance out of the reach of
children.
!
Use the appliance only for boiling water and not for any
other liquid.
!
Use the appliance only on a dry, firm and even surface.
!
Never use the kettle without lid. Do not open the lid
whilst the water is being boiled.
!
Be careful of steam coming out of the spout.
!
Be careful not to overfill the kettle.There is a risk of
scalding from water boiling over (filling quantity:
maximum
1
700 ml, minimum 500 ml.).
!
Never immerse the appliance in water.
!
Always pull the plug out of the socket before cleaning
or in case of absence for a long time.
!
The replacement of the cord and all other repairs must
be carried out by authorized Melitta Customer Service
Centres only or by a person of similar qualifications.
Using the kettle
1
. There is a flex storage compartment in the base. Adjust
the length of the flex by winding and unwinding (fig.
).
2. Insert plug of the appliance into socket.
3. Open the lid at the push of the button (fig.
).The lid is
not removable.
4. Fill with water.The water indicator shows the desired
filling-quantity (fig.
).
5. After filling, lock the lid by pressing downwards (fig.
).
6. Place the kettle on the base and switch it on
(fig.
/
). Control lamp will light up (fig.
).
7. When the water boils, the kettle will switch off
automatically and the control lamp will cease to glow.
8. The boiling operation can be interrupted at any time by
pressing the button “0” (fig.
).
9. Remove the kettle from the base. Pour out hot water
(fig.
).
Boil-dry protection
The heating element of the kettle is protected by a safety
cut-out device. If the appliance is switched on with
insufficient water in it, a special protective device will
automatically switch the kettle off.You should then pull out
the mains plug and allow the appliance to cool down
before refilling with water.
Anti-scale filter
The special scale filter prevents scale particles from ending
up in your drink. Clean the scale filter regularly. Open the
lid (fig.
) and pull the filter upwards out of the kettle
(fig.
).
Replacement anti-scale filter are available from your
retailer.
Cleaning and maintenance
Always pull the plug out of the socket before cleaning.
Cleaning:
Use a soft damp cloth and washing-up liquid for cleaning
the exterior. Appliance and cord should never be cleaned
under running water or immersed in water. Do not use
scouring pads or harsh abrasives.
Descaling:
Scale will build up in your kettle which unfortunately
cannot be avoided.You should descale your machine
regularly to ensure perfect operation. Descale the kettle if
there is built a noticeable chalk-bed in the kettle.

Important: After descaling repeat boiling process with
clear cold water at least 2-3 times.
Guarantee
For this appliance we shall grant a guarantee according to
the following conditions:
1
. The guarantee generally runs for a period 24 months
from the date of purchase.The guarantee comes into
force only, if date of purchase is confirmed by the
dealer’s stamp and signature on the guarantee card or
by submission of the corresponding proof of purchase/
receipt.
2. Within the guarantee period we will eliminate any
defects which are existing already from the time of
buying in the appliance resulting from faults which be
proved against us in material and/or workmanship either
by repairing or exchanging defective parts or exchanging
the whole appliance.The complaint has to be advised to
us within 4 weeks after detection.The guarantee period
for the appliance will not be extended by the
submission of the claim under guarantee. Exchanged
parts will become property of the manufacturer.The
customer will not be billed for freight, packaging or
other incidental costs resulting from a claim under
guarantee.
3. Damages which are not under responsibility of the
manufactorer are not covered by the guarantee.This is
valid especially for claims arising from improper use
(e.g. operation with wrong type of current or voltage)
or maintenance as well as from normal wear and tear.
Moreover the guarantee does not cover claims resulting
from calcification (for descaling hints look into the users
manual) or faults which have only a negligible effect on
the value or operation of the appliance.
4. The guarantee becomes void if repairs are carried out
by third parties which are not authorized by the
manufacturer to do so and/or if spare parts are used
other than the original ones.
5. This guarantee is valid only in the country where the
appliance was bought. In case of claim under guarantee,
please return the complete appliance
• preferably in the original box.
• with the filled-in guarantee card (see box) and
the proof of purchase/receipt as well as
• a description of the fault
to the Melitta Customer Service Centre, to an
authorized Service Centre or your approved dealer.
6. The entitlement out of this guarantee comes under the
statute of limitation 30 months after date of purchase at
the latest.
7. All other claims particularly claims for damages and
compensations for consequential damages resulting from
this guarantee are excluded unless the liability of the
manufacturer is laid down by binding law.
The claims under this guarantee of the ultimate buyer
ensuing from the sales contract/legal relationship with the
seller will not be affected by this guarantee.
