2.1 SUMMARY OF PERSONAL PROTECTION
EQUIPMENT (PPE) TO BE USED DURING ALL
OF THE MACHINE’S OPERATING PHASES
The following table summarises the PPEs (Personal Protection
Equipment) to be used during the various operating phases of the
machine (for each phase the use and/or placing at the worker’s
disposal of the PPEs is mandatory).
The PPEs used must be CE marked and respond to EEC Directive
89/686, transposed in Italian law with Legislative Decree D. Lgs.
475/92 and subsequent revisions.

Life-span of the equipment
Description
Example and mentions
Transport
Provides the transfer of the equipment from one place to another by means of a suitable
vehicle.
e.g.: use of vehicle on road, rails, etc.
Moving
Provides for the transfer of the equipment from and into the transporting vehicle for
movements not including road transport.
e.g.: use of bridge cranes or special
cranes, forklift trucks, etc.
Installation and assembling
Provides for all the assembling operations that preliminarily prepare the equipment for
setup.
e.g.: mechanical assemblies, auxiliary
circuits, etc.
Adjustment
Provides for the adjustment, setting up and calibration of all those devices that need to be
adapted to the operating conditions normally provided for and which cannot be securely
fixed during assembling operations.
e.g.: adjustment of mechanical parts,
relative alignments, etc.
Use
Use for which the equipment is designated in conformity with the instructions provided
by the manufacturer or considered usual on the basis of its design, construction and
function.
Control
Consists in the check up of the equipment’s functions.
e.g.: the verification of the correct
functionality of the safety devices, etc.
Greasing
Provides for the lubrication or greasing of the mobile parts such as bearings, slides, shafts
etc.
Incorrect use
Use resulting from involuntary negligence and not from a deliberate intention to use the
equipment improperly.
e.g.: the use of the equipment without
complying with the provisions of the
manual, the operators fail to use the DPI,
etc.
Maintenance
Consisting in the periodical checking of the equipment that are subject to wear or that
may require replacing.
e.g.: tines, bolts, bearings, etc.
Cleaning
Consists in the removal of dust and cultivation residue that could jeopardise the
performance and use of the equipment, as well as the health/safety of the operator.
e.g.: removal of residue buildup from the
hook-up points of the tines and from the
rear rollers
Shutting down
Provides for the disassembling of the equipment from the tractor after work has been
completed.
Dismantling
Consists in the complete or partial disassembling of the equipment, to allow possible
recycling or segregated waste collection of the components according to the provisions
laid down by the laws currently in force.
Demolition
Consists in the definitive removal of all the parts of the equipment resulting from the
demolition operation.
Dismantling
Operation consisting in the dismantling of products/substances contained in the
equipment.
These parts shall be disposed of,
scrupulously following the provisions laid
down in the legislation in force.
