Testing Thermal Cut-Out Operation
After replacement of the thermal cut out switch it is recommended that the following test be completed to
ensure correct operation once installed.
1.
Allow device to cool before commencing works as steam generator will retain residual heat.
2.
Drain all water from device, remove sump strainer and dry out sump.
3.
Once Sump and chamber are drained and dry, refill sump with Glycerol approx. ensure 2-3cm coverage
above the element.
4.
Remove front lower service cover.
5.
Remove temperature probe from device, and install a blanking bung.
6.
Leave probe in ambient air.
7.
Install a calibrated reference temperature meter with a temperature range of at least +125°C into thermal
well behind the capillary bulb of the thermal cut out.
8.
Start a normal machine cycle, and monitor when device reaches the Hot Wash stage.
9.
Device will bring on all elements and continue to heat the water as it will be referencing the ambient air
temperature, monitor temperature of the reference temperature probe in thermal well during heating.

If thermal cut out trips at +115°C +0/-9 °C the test is successful.

If device exceeds 115°C terminate test immediately, this is a failure. Thermal cut-out is faulty and
requires replacement.
10.
Once test is complete, isolate power and allow device to cool.
11.
Once cooled drain Glycerol from device.
12.
Remove bung and re-install temperature probe into tank.
13.
Replace all covers.
14.
Remove isolation.
If device is unable to be returned to a safe state of operation ensure device is tagged out of service and not used
until repairs are conducted and device returned to a safe operating state.
