SPECIFICATIONS
7.1
Tube and Pipe Size Range
The clamping system is designed to be continuously adjustable to allow each model to be clamped on the
entire range of pipe sizes for which the Head is designed (see below).
R-1 427A: From 13 - 38mm (0.5 - 1.5")
R-2 428A: From 33 - 90mm (1.315 - 3.5")
R-3 429A: From 90 - 168mm (3.5 - 6.625")
7.2
Speed Range
Torch rotational speed in the welding direction is adjustable.
R-1 427A: 0 - 4.0 RPM
R-2 428A: 0 - 1.5 RPM
R-3 429A: 0 - 0.6 RPM
Note
: Torch reverse jog is always at maximum speed.
7.3
Arc Gap Control
Arc length is automatically maintained even on an out-of-round pipe, by a simple mechanical Arc Gap
Control device. The torch is mounted on the end of a spring-loaded arm. Adjacent to the torch is an
adjusting screw with a rolling "wheel" which rides on the pipe surface. Turning the adjusting screw changes
arc length. The torch automatically follows the contour of the pipe surface.
7.4
Torch Cross Seam Adjustment
The lateral "axial" position of the torch may be adjusted while welding using the Cross Seam Adjustment
feature. The maximum adjustment provided is identical for each model:
6MM (
0.25")
7.5
Torch and Torch Cable Assembly
The water-cooled torch is rated at 200 amps, 100 percent duty cycle. The torch body is designed to accept
standard collets, collet bodies (both gas lens and spud type) and gas cups. The standard length of the torch
cable is 25 ft. (7.6 meters). For applications requiring greater distances between the power source and
Weld Head, extension cables are also available.
A top-loading version of the torch is standard. (A bottom-loading torch is optionally available, which reduces
the radial clearance requirement for applications with tight spatial constraints.)
The final 5 ft. (1.5 meters) of the cable assembly (torch end) is sheathed in a high temperature resistant
material. This minimizes potential damage to the cable if it comes in contact with the hot surface of a pipe.
