Chapter 4 Configuring the STM-1 Mode Ports and Channels Using the Console
Configuring the 1+1 Protection Parameters
Configuring the 1+1 Protection Parameters
Note:
Make sure that you have selected and applied the MSP Configured
setting of working to the correct module as shown in Figure 4-16
before starting MSP configuration. This window was displayed
after the
Apply Port Configuration
command in the “Configur-
ing All Channels on a Port (Channelization Disabled)” procedure
earlier in this chapter (if the modules are not in the correct slots,
your window will not look like Figure 4-16).
Begin
1
From the Channelized STM-1 Port Configuration window (see
Figure 4-16), select the
Configure MSP
command. The Channelized
STM-1 MSP Configuration window is displayed (see Figure 4-17).
Table 4-16 describes the commands for this window. Table 4-17 describes
the configurable fields on the right panel and the display only statistics
fields on the left panel.
2
Select the values for the fields on the window in Figure 4-16 from
Table 4-17.
3
After selecting the field options you want, select the
Apply Port Con-
figuration
command (see Figure 4-17).
The port and channel configuration has been applied.
If you have completed the configuration of the primary working module,
the module pair is now configured for MSP protection and the working
module is ready to pass traffic.
After you configured the first Channelized STM-1 ATM MM/SM MSP
module (in an even- or odd-numbered slot), it is designated the “work-
ing” module and is now functioning in active status. The module in the
adjacent slot is designated the “standby protection” module and is now
functioning in standby status. As the signal is received in the working
(active) module, it is also being sent to the protection (standby) module,
which drops the signal because is it not needed. If the working module in
active status fails, the system puts the protection module into active sta-
tus, and the working module into standby status. At a later time when
the working module is replaced or otherwise made operational, the
active status cannot revert automatically to the working module. To
cause the active status to revert to the working module, you must apply a
command on the Channelized STM-1 ATM MM/SM MSP Configuration
window (see Figure 4-17 and Table 4-16).
4
If you are finished with all module configuration procedures, save your
configuration at this time. Go to the Saving and Logging Off procedure
(next).
After you have saved your configuration, your module pair(s) are ready
to pass traffic. To view the statistics generated after traffic is passed, go
the Viewing Statistics section of this chapter.
