32. MIDI & TIME CODE (MULTIMEDIA)
32.1. MIDI
MIDI
(Musical Instruments Digital Interfaces) is a digital protocol that was development in the
musical instrument world; but, that today is used in many digital device and computers for the
synchronisation of events. Piccolo can communicate with any MIDI device, including other
Lighting consoles.
Piccolo works with MIDI NOTES associated as keys pressed,
[KEYS]
, and with MIDI
CONTROLLERS associated to the movement of faders,
Faders
. The MIDI protocol has 16
communication channels, each one for a maximum of 128 NOTES & 128 CONTROLLERS, and
for this reason, some Piccolo models (the large ones) need 2 MIDI channels to transmit/receive all
the keys and faders. MIDI, in Piccolo, accepts “Running Status” to improve the communication
speed.
The configuration of the MIDI for the console is done in menu 21. Open this menu by pressing
[MENU][2][1].
This menu is formed with the MIDI table and the general options, and pressing
[OPTIONS],
it is possible select any of the items.
General options are:
ON/OFF
to activate/deactivate the MIDI port. To work with MIDI this option must be
ON.
This option is also in menu
70: Multimedia Panel.
OUT/IN
to set the direction of the communication.
o
OUT
sets the console to send MIDI to other devices (controls, sequencers, computers,
musical instruments, etc.)
o
IN
sets the console to receive MIDI from other external devices. The received MIDI is
translated to keys pressed and to faders being moved.
CHANNEL
sets the MIDI communication channel, or for some Piccolo models (the larger
models) sets the first MIDI channel of the 2 MIDI channels used for receiving. To communicate
2 devices, both devices must have the same MIDI channel set.
1:1
sets all the MIDI associations with default values. The default MIDI table has been
defined to maintain the compatibility between all models of Piccolo consoles.
Disable/enable
, this command offers the functions to activation/deactivation all keys
and/or all faders.
The MIDI table allows to edit notes, controllers and affiliations as well as to activate (marked with
an *) or deactivate each affiliation independently. The affiliation can be deactivated and is then
excluded in the MIDI communication.
32.2. TIME CODE (EVENTS LIST)

Time Code
(
TC
)
, as
follows:
From an external clock
MTC
(Midi Time Code)
From the internal console clock
CLOCK
From a simulated clock
