Installation Menu: Behind the Scenes
What actually happens when you use the Installation Menu to install a new
sensor, or build a new configuration file?
Installing a Sensor
Any item that has a calibration associated with it (chamber tops, LED sourc-
es, external PAR sensors) needs to be ÒinstalledÓ, which simply means that
there needs to be an entry in a certain file that contains all the calibration in-
formation. That file is Ò
/dev/parm0
Ó, and itÕs contents make up part of the mas-
ter list illustrated in Figure 16-3 on page 16-4. A typical Ò
/dev/parm0
Ó is shown
The Installation Menu entry
"View Installed Cal Items"
scans
“/dev/parm0”
for the following entries (commented or not):
CalParGaAs=
CalParLED=
CalParOut=
and presents the results in a list such as shown by Figure 16-11.

Figure 16-10. Listing of a typical Ò
/dev/parm0
Ó. This file contains calibration data for all sensors.
When you install sensors using the Installation Menu, the data you enter winds up here. When there
are multiple sensors of one type, the ÒextraÓ ones can either appear as comments (line starts with //),
or come first in the list (the last one will take precedence).
