Prevention of damage and malfunctions
3.1 Designated
use
The MiniCODERs are only intended to be used for measuring tasks in the industrial
and commercial sectors. Positions, angles or rotational speeds can be measured using
these devices. They are installed in a machine/plant and need to be connected to spe-
cial evaluation electronics that are contained, for instance, in a rotational speed control
or a positioning control.
Any other use is not considered to be designated use.
3.2 Notes for operators and manufacturers
Personnel training
Make sure that the following requirements are met:
– Assembly, operation, maintenance and removal tasks are performed by trained
and qualified skilled personnel or are checked by a responsible specialist.
– Personnel has received training in electromagnetic compatibility and in handling
electrostatic-sensitive devices.
Provide personnel with all applicable accident prevention and safety regulations.
Make sure that personnel is familiar with all applicable accident prevention and
safety regulations.
3.3 Changes
and
modifications
Improper changes or modifications can damage the product.
Do make any changes or modifications to the product, with the exception
of the tasks described in these instructions.
3.4 Air gap between measuring surface and measuring scale
An excessively large air gap, i.e. an excessively large distance between measuring
surface and measuring scale (as a rule a target wheel) can result in the loss of the
measured signal.
If the air gap is excessively small, a high spot on the target wheel may touch the meas-
uring surface.
In case of large temperature fluctuations and different coefficients of thermal expansion
for the target wheel and carrier plate (mounting) for the MiniCODER, critical changes
to the air gap can occur:
●
An enlarged air gap will have a negative effect on the measuring accuracy (the
signal amplitudes may be excessively low).
●
A reduced air gap will result in overshoot and therefore the possible loss of pulses.
