INSTALLINg HORIZONTAL VENT
TERMINATION
1. Assemble vent run to exterior wall.
a) If not already done, prepare an opening as
described in
Figure 40
.
b) Assemble the vent system to the point
where the end of the last section is within
5 to 8-1/2 inches (127 to 216 mm) inboard
of the exterior surface to which the termina-
tion will be attached. See
Figure 40 and 41
.
If the end of the last section is not within this
distance, use the telescopic vent section as
the last vent section
(see
Page 14
)
.
Note: For walls thicker than those shown in
Figure 41
, see
Table 9
, which lists additional
venting components needed (in addition to the
termination and adaptor) for a particular range
of wall thicknesses.
2. Attach termination adaptor.
See
Figure 41
.
Attach the termination adap-
tor (provided with the termination) to the
vent section (or telescoping vent section or
elbow) in the same manner as the other vent
components
(see "Attaching Secure Vent
®
Components" on
Page 13
).
Note: If blown insulation is to be
used, the Through-Wall Shield kit
(H5816) MUST be installed.
3. Install firestop/spacer
at exterior wall.
See
Figure 40
.
Install the firestop/spacer over
the opening at the exterior side of the framing,
long side up, with the 3-inch spacer clearance
at the top, and nail into place. (The firestop/
spacer also may be installed over the opening
at the interior side of framing).
4. Install horizontal termination.
a) From outside the exterior wall, slide the
horizontal termination collars onto the
termination adaptor (the outer termina-
tion collar INSIDE the outer diameter of the
adaptor, and the inner termination collar
OUTSIDE the inner diameter of the adaptor)
until the termination seats against the exte-
rior wall surface to which it will be attached.
b) Orient the termination housing with the
arrow pointing UP
(see
Figure 41
)
.
c) Secure the termination to the exterior wall.

may also be installed on the
interior side.

NOTE: The horizontal termination must not
be recessed into the exterior wall or siding
by more than 1-1/4" (32 mm), as shown in
Figure 41
.
CAUTION: The vent termination is HOT
while in operation and for a period of time
following fireplace use. To prevent con-
tact with hot surfaces, use a
Termination
Guard
, which can be purchased at your
local dealer.
(See “
Installation Accesso-
ries
” in this manual for catalog numbers.)
Use Table 9 when selecting venting
components for a particular range of exterior
wall thicknesses.
HORIZONTAL TERMINATION SySTEMS
(CONTINUEd)
To help minimize water infiltration it
is recommended that the firestop/
Spacer (SV4.5Hf) be installed on
the exterior side of the wall.
