Router: Forwarding unit in an Ethernet network.

STN: Switched Telephone Network.

SCS: (Simplified cabling system). Wired bus used by
the Sagane™ intruder alarm.

BOOTP server: Server which automatically allocates
IP addresses.

S/N: Serial Number of Omizzy™ (label on the side
of the product).
Unique ID of the Omizzy™ server.

Scenario: Series of commands.

SMTP: (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol). Internet 
communication protocol used for exchanging 
electronic mail.

V90: Modem providing reception at 56 KBps 
(theoretical) and transmission at 33.6 KBps.

V92: Modem providing reception at 56 KBps 
(theoretical) and transmission at 56 KBps.

WAP: (Wireless Application Protocol) This 
communication protocol is used by mobile 
telephones to access information and control via 
the Internet.

IP address: Address of products connected on
Ethernet network.

CAD mains-borne signalling: Communication tech-
nology used between the products in the CAD
(remote control) range which uses the mains supply.

CLIP: Calling Line Identification Presentation.

DNS: Domain Name System. The DNS is a
database on the Internet which converts a digital IP
address (Internet address) to a domain name.Thus an
IP address of the type 207.219.116.5 is converted
to the format www.thing.com.

Ethernet: LAN protocol which provides high speed
data transfer.

Internet Service Provider: (ISP) The company which
provides your connection to the Internet and which
gives you your IP address (see IP).

Gateway: Device which enables two networks 
to communicate with one another.

Hub: Ethernet junction box.

Hub/router: Hub which incorporates the router 
function.

Hypertext: A hypertext link or hyperlink is indicated
by underlined text. Clicking on a hyperlink provides
access to a screen associated with this link.

IP: (Internet Protocol). Communication protocol 
for directing data from router to router on the Internet
until it reaches its destination. The IP address is 
the digital address which is given to your computer
by your Internet operator.

ISP: Internet Service Provider.

LAN: Local Area Network.

Modem: (MODulator - DEModulator). Unit for linking
Omizzy™ to the telephone network. It can be V90
or V92.

PPP: (Point to Point Protocol). Internet communication
protocol used to connect two separate computers via
a telephone line.
