GL16
Operating Principles
5-15
•
Power is connected to the exhaust
blower motor (MTR2). The exhaust
blower motor rotates the exhaust
blower fan and moves air through the
discharge duct.
5.
One stage of the incoming power supplies
transformer T2 converting the line volt-
age to 120 VAC. The 120 VAC supply
powers the gas safety circuitry.
Heating System Normal Operation
Stage
This stage describes the sequence that occurs
during ignition, operation, and shut-down of the
burner.
Start-Up
1.
When the green START button is pressed
and the moving parts of the unit begin ro-
tating, the TEMPERATURE CONTROL
ON indicator will light. The HEAT indi-
cator stays lit during the heating cycle until
set point is reached. HEAT indicator will
not come on until temperature drops 12ºF
below set point.
2.
Set the TEMPERATURE CONTROL
(TSTAT1) to 300ºF (150ºC).
3.
Turn the front panel GAS switch (S3) to
ON. LT1 will light.
•
Sail switch (FS1) contacts are closed,
proving the blower is operating and suf-
ficient air is flowing to exhaust com-
bustion by-products and excess heat.
•
High temperature limit control circuit
card (HLT1) is energized.
#
If the TEMPERATURE
C O N -
TROL senses a high temperature
condition, the red HIGH LIMIT
indicator lamp on the front panel
lights and the flame safeguard shuts
down the heating system.
#
The unit must be given time to cool
down, and the HIGH TEMPERA-
TURE LIMIT RESET switch must
be pressed. This yellow reset but-
ton is located on the outside fo the
main electrical box at the back of
the left end frame.
Flame Control Diagnostics (up to 6 seconds)
1.
After the GAS switch is turned to ON,
the flame safeguard makes sure:
•
No flame is being sensed.
•
Combustion air flow pressure sensor
switch is open indicating:
#
There is no combustion air flow
#
Switch is working
#
Switch has not been bypassed
•
All combustion control circuits are
functioning properly.
2.
If any flame safeguard diagnostic check
fails, an alarm output is generated by the
flame safeguard.
•
SYSTEM ERROR red LED on the
flame safeguard comes on.
•
FLAME SAFEGUARD indicator
lamp on the front panel comes on.
Pre-Purge (15 seconds)
After the flame safeguard diagnostics are
successful, the flame safeguard:
1.
Verifies the combustion air flow pressure
sensor switch is open.
2.
Starts the combustion blower.
3.
Verifies the combustion air flow pressure
sensor switch is closed.
4.
Starts the 15-second pre-purge to clear
any excess combustible gas which may
have collected in the system.
