mTenna Plus and mTenna Select Installation Guide
12 Transmit power calibration and commissioning
12.1 Verify OpenAMIP communication
Before beginning commissioning and power calibration, ensure that the modem is communicating with the mTenna
Plus. Review the mTenna Plus user interface Status page to confirm the value for “Plus Connected” is “true”. Additionally,
confirm that “Plus Control” is “true” for each configured ODU.
If it appears that OpenAMIP is not working correctly, check for compatibility in the IP configuration of the ASMs, mTenna
Plus, and the modem options file. If you are not able to achieve communication between the modem and the mTenna
Plus, contact your Kymeta representative.
✎
To checkthe complete IP configuration of the mTenna Plus, connect to the mTenna Plus via SSH and execute the
following command:
sudo cat /storage/settings/interfaces
.
12.2 Transmit power calibration
The goals of the transmit power calibration process are the following:
Ensure all ODUs are operating in a range with adequate power margin.
Align the P1dB compression points of all the ODUs so that each BUC reaches P1dB compression at the same
output power by the modem.
✎
Before beginning P1dB testing on any ASMs, ensure that no BUC attenuation is set on any ASM by navigating to
Pointing > Commissioning Mode > BUC Settings
for each ASM.
12.2.1 Set mTenna Select attenuation
The default configuration of the mTenna Select provides 14 dB of attenuation across all four TX Out paths to the ASMs
to offset 14 dB of gain the mTenna Select also provides. This is sufficient for most installations with longer cable runs to
provide power levels within the operating range of the modem and BUC. However, if the link budget indicates this is
insufficient, set additional attenuation at the mTenna Select before beginning commissioning and power calibration.
Attenuation settings between 0 and 31.75 dB in 02.5 dB increments are valid. If during operation the iDirect modem has
insufficient tailroom (output power is less than -32 dBm), add attenuation to the mTenna Select.
If required by your link budget or modem diagnostics, modify attenuation at the mTenna Select. Connect to the mTenna
Plus via SSH, and then execute the following commands to get and set values:
libkymetaservice-get-setting.py -s hardware-service -k arbitrator-attenuation
libkymetaservice-set-setting.py -s hardware-service -k arbitrator-attenuation:14 .0
