Rxxx appears when you touch the right section (the section
closest to the RibbonÕs cable); xxx varies from 0 at the 2/3
point back up to 255 at the extreme right.
If you touch the Ribbon in only one place, a bar appears on the
bottom line to show single-section readings. If youÕre critically
testing the Ribbon, carefully watch both lines of the display while
slowly moving your Þnger from left to right. At the 1/3 point, the
L and C Þelds should both turn on brießy. At the 2/3 point, then
C and R Þelds should both turn on. The display shouldnÕt ßicker,
and the bar should smoothly move through these transition
points without jumping forward or back.
MIDI Test
The MIDI test lets you check the ExpressionMateÕs MIDI ports.
You can also use the test to check your MIDI cables. You need two
MIDI cables to run this test.
Caution:
Do not connect the ExpressionMateÕs output to any
kind of ÒintelligentÓ MIDI device, such as a
synthesizer, merge box, patcher, or computer, while
running this diagnostic! Doing so will crash the
device and may corrupt its memory. However, simple
thru boxes, passive mergers, and LED MIDI
indicators should not experience any problems.
To start the MIDI test, Þrst enter Diagnostics as described on page
98. Next, press
CPU
(>), and press
SELECT
(<) repeatedly until
the display says ÒMIDI TEST.Ó Then press
RUN
(>).
The screen will change to this:
PLUG CABLE: MAIN
OUT TO AUX IN.OK
Connect a MIDI cable from Main Out to Aux In, then press
OK
(>). The test will run for two seconds. If it passes, the screen will
change to this:
PLUG CABLE: AUX
OUT TO MAIN IN
