Braking

Close the throttle and simultaneously brake with the hand and
foot brake. Primarily actuate the rear brake on sandy, wet or
slippery surfaces. Always brake with feeling, locked wheels will
cause the motorcycle to skid or crash. Always shift down the
gears in accordance with the speed.
Take advantage of the engine's braking effect on long down-
hill stretches. Shift back into 1st or 2nd gear but do not overrev
the engine. You will not need to apply the brakes as often and
the brakes will not overheat.

Shifting gears, cruising

First gear, the gear you have engaged, is the starting or low
gear. You can change gears if conditions allow (traffic, incline).
To change gears, stop accelerating, pull the clutch lever while
engaging the next gear, release the clutch lever and accelerate.
If the choke was actuated, turn it off when the engine is warm.
After reaching the maximum speed by completely opening the
throttle, turn in back to 3/4 gas; the speed will hardly be redu-
ced but fuel consumption will significantly decrease.
Always give as much gas as the engine can use - a brusque
opening of the throttle grip will increase consumption.
To shift downwards, brake if necessary while decelerating. Pull
the clutch lever and engage a lower gear, slowly release the
clutch lever and accelerate or shift again.
If, for example, the engine stalls at a crossing, just pull the
clutch lever and start. The transmission does not need to be in
the neutral position.
