LONG-TERM STORAGE
3
BEFORE STORAGE
3
When keeping in long-term storage (more than one month), store as follows.
q
Clean and wash all parts, then store the machine indoors. If the machine has to be stored outdoors, select
level ground and cover the machine with a sheet.
q
Fill the fuel tank to prevent moisture from accumulating.
q
Completely fill the fuel tank, lubricate and change the oil before storage.
q
Apply a thin coat of grease to metal surface of the hydraulic piston rods and the idler adjusting rods.
q
Disconnect the negative terminals of the battery and cover it or remove it from the machine and store it sepa-
rately.
q
Place all control levers at the neutral position, operate the safety lever and parking lever to the LOCK position,
then move the fuel control lever to the low idling position.
DURING STORAGE
3
WARNING
When it is necessary to perform the rust-preventive operation while the machine is indoors, open the
doors and windows to improve ventilation and prevent gas poisoning.
q
During storage, always operate the machine once a month so that a new film of oil will be coated over mov-
able parts and component surfaces. At the same time, also charge the battery.
q
When operating the work equipment, wipe off all the grease from the hydraulic cylinder rod.
q
If the machine is equipped with an air conditioner, operate it for 3 to 5 minutes once a month to lubricate each
portion of its compressor. Be sure to idle the engine at low speed for this purpose. Also, check the quantity of
refrigerant twice a year.
AFTER STORAGE
3
NOTICE
If the machine has been stored without the monthly rust prevention operation, consult your Komatsu dis-
tributor for service.
When using the machine after long-term storage, do as follows before using it.
q
Wipe off the grease from the hydraulic cylinder rods.
q
Add oil and grease at all lubrication points.
q
When the machine is stored for a long period, moisture in the air can contaminate the oil over time. Check the
oil for presence of water before and after starting the engine. If there is water in the oil, change the oil.
