Relative (rel)
For all measurement functions, except Continuity, relative is used to null offsets or
establish a baseline for future readings. When Rel is enabled, the displayed read-
ing is determined as follows:
Displayed Reading = Actual Input - Reference
The reference value is established when the REL key is pressed (REL annuncia-
tor on). The reference is also called the rel value.
Nulling an offset
With the offset reading displayed, press the REL key to zero the display (REL
annunciator on). Future readings for the input signal will not include the offset.
Pressing REL again will disable relative.
Establishing a baseline
Apply the baseline level to the input and press REL to enable it (REL annunciator
on). The reference (rel) level becomes the zero baseline. Future readings will be
the difference between the actual input and the reference (rel) level. For example,
for a +1 reference level, future readings will be the actual input minus 1V.
