There are many risks involved with improper disposal of batteries, whether damaged or not.
Batteries may contain heavy metals and be considered hazardous waste.
Many regions around the world now strictly enforce laws to help protect our environment.
By not disposing of batteries properly, you may be liable for fines from your local through
national government.
By not recycling batteries, they end up in landfills that are already low on space. From these
land fills, lead and other chemicals may leach into streams and rivers destroying ecosystems
and poisoning local water resources.
Improper disposal of batteries may also cause injury to unsuspecting others that come in
contact with them. If you come in contact with fluids or corroded powder from a battery,
rinse with water and contact a physician if necessary. If contact with eyes occurs, rinse for 15
minutes and then visit a physician.
Incinerating or burning a battery will cause it to explode! Please see the end of section 11.
