TIPS FOR SAFE MAINTENANCE AND USE
STORAGE
• When your Kamado is not in use and is stored outside, you should cover it using a suitable rain cover. Make
sure the unit has cooled thoroughly before.
• Store your Kamado in a garage or shed during the winter for complete protection.
CLEANING
• The Kamado is self-cleaning. Heat it to 260
°
C for 30 minutes, and it will scorch away all food and debris.
• DO NOT use water or any other type of cleaning agent to clean the inside of your Kamado. The walls
are porous and will absorb any liquid used, which could cause the Kamado to crack. If the soot becomes
excessive, use a wire brush to scrape off the remaining carbon before the subsequent use.
• Remove the ashes from the tray regularly with the ash shovel included.
• The chrome cooking rack is NOT dishwasher safe; use a mild detergent with hot water.
• To clean the grates, use a non-abrasive product after the unit has cooled down completely.
• To clean the outer surface, wait until the Kamado is cool and use a damp cloth with a mild detergent.
MAINTENANCE
• Tighten the bands and oil the hinge twice a year or more if necessary.
IGNITION, OPERATION, AND MAINTENANCE
• The Kamado should be placed on a permanent, flat, level, and heat resistant, fireproof surface, away from
flammable objects.
• Your Kamado should have a distance of at least 2 m from other surrounding flammable items or surface.
• To start a fire, place rolled-up newspaper with a few lighting cubes or solid firelighters on the charcoal
plate (7) in the base of the Kamado. Then place 2 or 3 handfuls of lump charcoal on the newspaper.
• DO NOT use gasoline, White Spirit (heavy naphtha), lighter fluid, alcohol, or similar chemicals for lighting or
relighting.
• Open the bottom vent and light the newspaper with a long-bill lighter or safety matches. Once the fire is lit,
leave the bottom vent and lid open for about 10 minutes to create a small bed of hot embers.
• Allow the charcoal to warm up. It should be red-hot for at least 30 minutes before you start cooking. DO NOT
cook until the fuel has an ash layer.
• It is recommended that you not feed or turn the coals once they are lit to allow for more even and efficient
burning.
• Once the coals are lit, ONLY use heat-resistant gloves to handle hot ceramics or cooking surfaces.
